About Chartburn

Chartburn is the heartburn you get from charting. Its close cousin, “pajama time,” is the research literature’s term for the charting clinicians do after hours — 86 minutes per weekday, in the best measurement we have (Arndt et al., Annals of Family Medicine, 2017). The software responsible for those minutes publishes almost nothing about itself: not its real monthly cost with fees, not its pricing history, not what it charges you to leave, not how long its notes take.

Clinicians hold all of that data individually. This site aggregates it. File what you pay and how long your notes take; we publish medians with their sample sizes. Cells with fewer than 3 reports are suppressed, so no single report can define a vendor and no vendor can astroturf the table.

Rules we run on

Community figures are always presented as reported by clinicians, never as verified fact. No star ratings, no free-text reviews — structured facts only. Reports are anonymous: no name, no NPI, no login. Optional emails receive the monthly report and are never displayed or shared.

No monetization, ever. No ads, no premium tier, no data selling, no affiliate links.

Who runs this

Chartburn is run by the team behind therapistrates.org, the clinician-run rate-transparency project. Founded by Ryan Sultan, MD.

Corrections and vendor responses: hello@chartburn.org. Vendors are welcome to publish their full pricing publicly — that is, in the end, the point.
